“Great seeing you and have an awesome session!”

A few minutes into the session, I hear some fumbling kitchen noises. Clinking cutlery, and a cutting knife and board.

I switch back to my Focusmate tab.

Uh-oh. The partner forgot to mute themselves.

They stroll around the kitchen, unaware of their “crime.” I watch them turn on a blender and suffered the deafening orchestra.

Eventually, they figured it out and we both had a laugh. This was before I knew you could mute your tab.

It’s one of those Focusmate tips I wish I knew about earlier, so I wrote them out.

1. Know the difference between going off-camera vs. turning the camera off

Focusmate adheres to a strict camera-on policy.

Your partner needs to see what you’re doing. If they’re on camera, and you’re not, they can feel unsafe. For some, it’s triggering. Some will leave the session when you do.

You want the watching-a-stranger thing going both ways.
