4 Problems I Ran Into When Chasing Career Fulfilment

I used to believe work should feel like a dream — fulfilling, exciting, and perfectly aligned with my skillset.

It takes a while to find a job you like.

Chasing career fulfilment felt like a nausea-inducing amusement park ride, with plenty of problems to handle on the way up.

Here are some I came across.

Problem #1: Unrealistic expectations

“Maybe you have too high expectations of your work,” my friend told me.

If I don’t have high expectations, then who will?

On the other hand: They had a point.

I expected to constantly learn new things and enjoy my job every day! But work is just that — work. Companies don’t exist to make my job fun or teach me everything I need to know.

Just showing up and doing your job doesn’t get you “ahead” either. It’s what they hired you for!

Plus, someone needs to do the grunt work.

To stop being that someone, you need better skills. And unless you get lucky at your company, that’s something you build in your own time.
