7 Ways Writing Online Positively Impacts My Mental Health
Despite some minor negatives
In the latest Meld of Minds writing prompt, we’re asked to think about how writing online affects our mental health. I see what is hinted at. Feeling constant pressure to produce can have a toll on your sanity. Either “pump out content” and stay relevant or be forgotten and buried underneath stories by those who can “keep up.”
I’m in the middle of another 30-day writing challenge, and I’m not hitting my numbers. If I fail hard, I’ll lose my self-respect and esteem. Do I, therefore, feel this constant pressure to produce? Yes. Does it increase my anxiety levels? Sure.
Once this challenge comes to an end, I’ve already decided to adjust the writing pace downwards. Temporary binge writing can help to get out of a writing dip and back into the habit of consistent writing. What does “consistent” mean, though? Well, each person should be the judge of their own pace.
I’ve written frequently and less frequently. My lowest number is five pieces, my highest 24. Strangely enough, the first was my best month ever in terms of earnings. So, I can’t exactly pinpoint the exact cause-effect. What I’ll do instead is just continue writing. It’s good for the soul and for my mental health since that’s what we’ll be discussing here.
