The Job was Boring, But Freelancing was Worse

It nearly wrecked me

At 29, I quit my full-time job to

  • Start freelancing
  • Set my own hours
  • Dedicate more time to my hobbies.

It was the worst decision I made.

Chasing the dream

I worked as a copywriter and translator at a big company.

Although that sounds nice, the job didn’t have upward mobility. Half my time was wasted, copy-pasting lines between tools.

I wasn’t learning anything new. I was decaying. Long-term, this’d harm my career prospects.

“It’s a matter of time before this department gets automated. Might as well jump ship now.”

So I jumped.

“I’ll freelance! I’ll make more money working with my own clients anyway.”

I was about to make my life 10x harder.

Broke and unemployed.

I left a mediocre job with equally mediocre skills.

And you can’t sell mediocre skills for good money.

I was at least decent at: copy- and content writing, so I sold that as a service.
