A few months ago articles started popping up on Medium like fresh spring blossoms. A new load of writers had started testing the News Break Creator Program. They seemed to be over the moon because of what seemed like “easy money”. Some admitted they copy-pasted articles already written on Medium. What remained was to grow the follower and view count, and you’d earn your 1K.

Tim Denning did an elaborate analysis of News Break from the perspective of a six-figure write with six years of experience. If you’re at all curious about writing on this platform, you should give his piece a read.

I have to say the stories from Medium writers who earned cash on the side on News Break without lifting too many fingers tempted me. It seems like a straightforward way to syndicte your content.

Sounds too good to be true, right?

It feels too good to be true to me. Each new channel you set up, every single thing you add on, you’ll also have to maintain. Otherwise, what’s the point of leading your following to a dead alley?

The same goes for Substack. If readers sign up for a paid newsletter, they expect to get value for their money. Naturally, curating this takes time…
